I’m not a big South Beach fan: don’t sunbathe, the restos tend to be overpriced, and the face control of the nightclub scene…murder!
But I love Lincoln Road.
I love walking the length—from Washington Avenue to Alton Road—and buying not a damn thing in the shops. (Books and Books would be the grand exception!) I love watching crowds mill along: tourists from Sampa and Baires, laden with bags, couples of any number of orientations walking dogs, buskers playing Jack Johnson tunes for cash, parents with tots perusing the Sunday Farmer’s Market—and so much more!
I miss places like Gertrude’s. GayDar, Lyon Freres market. I miss the more relaxed vibe of the Road 15-20 years ago. Williams-Sonoma? The Gap? Victoria’s Secret? If I wanted to shop there, I’d go to Dadeland, Aventura, Merrick Park…
That said—I still love wasting time on Lincoln Road. It’s a wonderful place to see…
