Drei und zwanzig…vier und zwanzig…

23. Something you miss.

I miss many things: the days when MTV actually played music videos; snow cone stands in summer; riding down the street on my old SportStar banana-seat bike, to name a few.

I also miss many people: my Mom and Dad; my best friend from high school, Julio Delvalle; my grandmother and great-grandmother.

Pressed to stick with one thing I dearly miss, though…? I miss the days when I would lose myself, for hours, in the songs I would hear on the radio.

Not the best of times, no—but secret and sacred and oh, so intimate, in ways that iTunes, Pandora, and last.fm could never be.

24. Five words/phrases that make you laugh.

A few risible classics for your pleasure:

  • Walla Walla, Washington; try saying that out loud, without at least cracking a smile! Go on—I’ll be here when you’re done.
  • “Sarah Cynthia Sylvia Stout Would Not Take The Garbage Out”; I love the work of the late Shel Silverstein, and that poem in particular is a scream. The title alone cheers me.
  • Kawaii; one of my favorite Japanese words! Whenever I see something that strikes me as cute, it springs to mind immediately!
  • “It’s a good thing”; yes, I’m riffing on Martha Stewart, but I kid because I love.
  • Lame-o-rama; I contend that, if you add “o-rama” to any word, it automatically becomes a silly, funny thing!

What’s on your funny five?
